Selected Social Determinants of Health for Rural Idaho
While most Idahoans have some form of health insurance coverage, 8.2% of residents remain uninsured (Kaiser, 2022). According to the Economic Research Service, the average per capita income for Idahoans in 2021 was $52,369, with the rural per capita income at $48,341. The ERS reports, based on 2021 ACS data, that the poverty rate in rural Idaho is 12.6%, compared with 10.0% in urban areas of the state. 11.6% of the rural population has not completed high school, while 7.5% of the urban population lacks a high school diploma according to 2017-2021 ACS data reported by ERS. The unemployment rate in rural Idaho is 2.8%, while in urban Idaho it is 2.6% (USDA-ERS, 2022).
