Selected Social Determinants of Health for Rural Florida

11.2% of Florida residents are uninsured (Kaiser, 2022). According to the USDA Economic Research Service (ERS), the average per capita income for Florida residents in 2021 was $62,270, with the rural per capita income at $46,463. The ERS reports, based on 2021 ACS data, that the poverty rate in rural Florida is 20.0%, compared with 13.0% in urban areas of the state. 17.9% of the rural population has not completed high school, while 10.7% of the urban population lacks a high school diploma according to 2017-2021 ACS data reported by ERS. The unemployment rate in rural Florida is at 3.2%, while in urban Florida it is at 2.9% (USDA-ERS, 2022).
