Substance Use Disorder Treatment and Recovery Loan Repayment Program (STAR LRP)

The Health Resources and Service Administration provides loan repayment assistance for substance use disorder (SUD) professionals providing direct treatment or recovery support services in an approved facility located in communities designated as a Mental Health Professional Shortage Area or in counties with an overdose death rate that is above the national average.
To be eligible, applicants must:
- Be a U.S. citizen (either U.S. born or naturalized), U.S. National, or permanent resident
- Meet applicable education requirement and have a current, full, permanent, unencumbered, unrestricted health professional license, certificate or registration in the discipline in which they are applying to serve
- Be employed by, or have accepted a position at, a STAR LRP-approved facility

Priority is given to applicants employed in an approved facility located in a county or municipality where the mean drug overdose death rate per 100,000 people over the past three years for which official data is available from the State, is higher than the most recent available national average overdose death rate per 100,000 people, as reported by the CDC.
Up to $250,000 for 6 years of full-time employment at a STAR LRP-approved service site.
